Today, I suddenly opened my eyes—
and my wife was home.
I was surprised, but also truly happy.
I’ve also had moments where I talked with my dad,
and the therapists at the hospital have been helping me a lot.
I’m still hospitalized,
but I believe I’ll get better soon.
Today, I had a nice moment with my wife,
sharing a drink and warm conversation.
Speaking is still difficult,
but I’m grateful that the people around me help me often.
And little by little, I feel like my body is recovering.
Just like a broken leg heals over time,
I believe my brain will also heal with time.
I even have hope that I can prepare and return to work soon.
But the doctors told me
it might take about three years to fully recover.
At first, I didn’t understand what that meant.
I thought once I left the hospital, my brain would be okay too.
Yesterday, my wife and I talked about things we used to do.
She said she feels a little sorry for me.
Hearing that, I thought to myself,
“Am I really someone to be pitied?”
More than anything, I miss my son.
And suddenly, I thought of my father.
When my father was hospitalized for three years,
I remembered how much my mother had to endure.
Now, I’m in the same place he once was.
And my wife and kids carry the weight of that with me.
Thinking of my wife struggling for the next three years
makes me feel sorry—and thankful.
